5. Vegas Market Reactions

Summary

Mark and Mike revisit some of the people, places, products, and happenings from July’s Las Vegas Market — sharing their chief reactions to the week's events.

Key Take-Aways

  • Summer Market was quiet, but productive. Attendance appeared lighter than even a typical July Market, but the people who came were there to do business, leading to many substantive conversations.

  • There were fewer meaningful product launches than usual. Most manufacturers held major introductions for January, with relatively few brands using the quieter summer market as an opportunity to stand out.

  • There was a noticeable “new guard” energy at Market. More people seem to be stepping forward who want to challenge old approaches and help shape the industry's future.

  • The industry may be entering a broader changing-of-the-guard moment. Major assets are moving into new hands, new leaders are emerging, and fresh thinking is gaining influence across the category. Sleep Country's acquisition of Sleep Number's stores is one example of that change.

  • Somnigroup is consolidating its Las Vegas presence into a massive new showroom. Moving its brands together into the B building will also reshape traffic patterns—and potentially showroom value—elsewhere in the bedding floors.

  • Ante4Autism raised nearly $200,000 at this year's event. The industry's annual poker tournament has now generated roughly $1.8 million for autism-related causes over its history.
